Noted OTR Wind Symphony To Perform For “Christmas First”
On Saturday, December 8, 2018, at 2:00 pm, historic First Lutheran Church (FLC), at 1208 Race Street in Over-the-Rhine, will welcome the Queen City Concert Band (QCCB) for a free performance showcasing the wonderful sounds of the season. A variety of Christmas classics will be performed by the QCCB, including traditional carols like ‘What Child Is This,’ festive selections such as ‘Sleigh Ride’ and many others.
“Christmas First,” a fitting recognition of the very origin of the holiday season, is the ensemble’s annual concert at the OTR landmark, which began in 1842 as the first English Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The FLC’s founders, mostly European immigrants, had a desire to plant an English-speaking, gospel-centered community in the heart of Cincinnati. More than 175 years later, this founding mission continues.
“This time of year, it’s a lot of fun to head downtown and ride the streetcar, go shopping, hit the OTR hot spots or take a winter stroll through Washington Park; and we hope the folks out there will bring their families and help us honor the true spirit of Christmas by making this free concert a part of their holiday itineraries,” recommends FLC Pastor Brian Ferguson.
In addition to enjoying the music of the season, the event is also an opportunity for concert-goers to see the fully restored Race Street facade and the new Gallery — which includes beautifully reconditioned art glass windows.
A Cookie & Punch Reception will follow.
Convenient paid parking is available in the Washington Park Garage (entrance on Race Street at 13th Street), and metered spaces can be found on the streets surrounding First Lutheran Church.
